NODA Grant Fund

Updated April 2007

In fall 2003, the NODA Board created a grant fund to support member-driven initiatives, including regional and association programming and projects. The total Grant Fund amount changes each year, depending on the ability of the associate to allocate funds. In 2003-2004, membership utilized approximately $6952 of the grant funds. In 2004-2005, approximately $975 was accessed. In 2005-2006, approximately $3972 of the grant fund supported a variety of NODA-related activities.

In this fiscal year (December 1, 2006-November 30, 2007) approximately $1300 of the $5000 grant fund has been allocated. Currently we have more requests in the pipeline for discussion and anticipate that it will be a record year for NODA Grant Fund requests. Thus far, allocations have supported events such as:

  • PAC-10 & Friends Orientation Professionals Meeting in January 2007, co-hosted by Region I and II at the University of Washington in Seattle. Attending institutions benchmark, discuss pertinent hot topics, and discuss ways in which we might use this information for NODA involvement at a regional level.
  • Drive-In Conference for Orientation Leaders for western New York schools in February 2007. Providing a 4-5 hour conference, offering 3 workshops on various training and team building topics. Includes a keynote speaker addressing student leadership and development.
  • State Drive-In Workshop at Rutgers University in February 2007. Revolves around a list of topics generated from registered participants regarding current issues in the state of N.J. in respect to orientation and the mission of NODA.
  • Maryland Orientation Professional’s Mini-Conference at Towson University in December 2006 to discuss many of the issues facing Maryland Orientation programs and have small break out sessions on specialized topics.

What Can I Do with the Money?

Grant funds have been used to fund conferences, drive-in workshops, meeting sessions, and more. NODA would love to see the funds used for a wide variety of expenditures including reading groups, training sessions, and more. Using the Grant Fund is a great way to share your NODA experience and network with colleagues in your region who might not be able to attend annual NODA conferences. If you have an idea, contact your Regional Coordinator to get started!

Who Makes the Call?

The Finance Committee of NODA is the organizing body which reviews and votes on grant fund applications. This committee “meets” via email, so when you’re writing a proposal, be sure to explain your request in great detail.

How Do I Get in on the Action?

It’s easy to apply for a NODA Grant. Awards are to be utilized for the benefit of NODA’s regions/states/provinces, networks, publications, or the association at large. Proposals must support NODA’s goals and philosophy as outlined in the association’s Core Values and Strategic Priorities, available here: http://www.nodaweb.org/about/index.html#mission.

Funds are distributed on a first come, first served basis. Money will continue to be awarded until it is gone. Deadlines for requests will be on the first of November, January, March, May, July, and September. Grants will be reviewed within 21 days after the deadline. (Example: a request received on January 2nd will be reviewed by March 22nd.)

If you have any questions or would like more information on how to apply for a NODA Grant, please contact your Regional Coordinator. A list of all Regional Coordinators is available through the NODA website at http://www.nodaweb.org/about/leadership.html.
