NODA Leader: Steve Matthews
Dean of Students
SUNY Plattsburgh

NODA Position: Secretary/Treasurer

Why was getting involved in NODA important to you?

I felt a real connection from the start with NODA. I found it easy to get involved and wanted to give back to the group that gave so much to me.

When and why did you get involved with NODA?
I joined NODA in 1999, when I started doing Orientation on our campus. I was looking for the leading organization in Orientation and was steered NODAs way. That advice was right on target!

Why should a member consider a leadership position in NODA?
For me, my leadership in NODA is a large part of my own professional development. I am working and learning with campus leaders from across the country and improving many of the skills that i need to use with my job on campus.

What have you gained from your leadership positions in NODA?
I have gained a better understanding of how a Non-profit organization works, I have learned strategies to manage my time and schedule, I have learned how to incorporate ideas from very diverse perspectives and how to think of those diverse perspectives on my campus.

What is your favorite NODA related memory?
My favorite NODA memory was visiting the Association Office for the first time. Seeing the location, or home of the Association, really grounded my thinking about the importance and responsibility associated with being a Board Member.
