The NODA Association office has a new staff position: Director of Membership Engagement and Operations. Lamar Shingles joined the team in the beginning of July, bringing with him his dynamic student affairs experience in campus recreation, student activities, residential life, and multicultural affairs.

"I am thrilled to have Lamar join the team," says NODA Executive Director Joyce Holl. "He brings to us another perspective in higher education and the ability to think strategically with a fresh approach. I look forward to working with him as the Association Office continues to grow programming for NODA Members."

Lamar joins us from Hamline University where he has grown his career over the last 10 years, starting in Residential Life as Hall Director and Coordinator of Diversity Education and serving as Director of Campus Recreation for the last 5 years. In this position, he was responsible for the overall leadership of Hamline's Campus Recreation program including the management of a team of 30+ talented students.

NODA's Director of Events, Programs, and Services Chad Henderson worked with Lamar in a previous role at Hamline University. "I am so excited about Lamar's big picture and futuristic vision for NODA. I am confident that he will bring great ideas and exciting changes to the Association," he says.

"Lamar is great at building connections with people and team development.
I know our members and volunteers are going to love his presence in the Association."

Along with these professional roles, Lamar brings his experience as an active member and volunteer in the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) to his position at NODA. As a member of NIRSA, he has presented at annual conferences and served on various professional committees including the Nominations and Appointments committee; Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion commission, and Small Colleges task force. His experiences within NIRSA contribute to his excitement about joining the NODA team. "[These experiences] allowed me to connect with people in my field and understand the value of associations such NIRSA and NODA to the members they serve," says Lamar. "I'm looking forward to contributing to NODA's strategic plan and discovering how I can play a role in supporting the Association's growth and development of its members."

Outside of the office, Lamar enjoys spending time with his family. He credits his father (or should we say his father credits himself) for his introduction to his wife Kori, who at the time was working as a graduate assistant in the recreation department at Central Michigan University, where his father worked. Kori and Lamar have a seven-year-old son Jayden. As a whole, Lamar enjoys trying and learning about new things. His most recent interest is his new motorcycle, a Triumph Street Triple.
