Student Workers
Alyssa, Blake, & Katelyn

Alyssa, Student Office Assistant

September is Alyssa's one year mark with NODA! If you've called into the Association Office with questions, you've probably spoken to Alyssa. She's that friendly voice on the other end of the line, alongside Office Manager Leiha Bakey. When she's not wowing us with her customer service skills, Alyssa is helping the Association Staff with various projects including the 2017 Databank Report or researching fun marketing materials. "I love it!" she says. "I've really enjoyed getting to know all of the staff and seeing the close-knit environment they have created."

"Alyssa holds herself and her work to a high standard," says Leiha. "I have truly been in awe at the hard work and dedication she puts in, and it shows in her finished projects. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we are glad she is on our team!"

Alyssa's a Health and Wellness major and Leadership minor at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, just starting her senior year. She is working to become a neurological physical therapist. She just completed her graduate school applications, and she's now patiently waiting to hear back.

When she's not working or studying (both of which she does a lot of!), Alyssa loves DIY projects. This year is her first year in college with her own room, and she's currently finding a lot of DIY projects to help decorate her space. As a kid, she always wanted to become an artist, so DIY is her way of holding on to her creative side.

Blake, Student Marketing Assistant

Blake is our newest student worker in the Association Office! He has joined the growing Marketing team, which includes Director of Operations & Membership Engagement Lamar Shingles, Marketing & Communications Coordinator Nikki Bartoloni, and fellow student worker Katelyn.

"Blake is already such a hard worker," says Nikki. "He's taking on big projects, and finding ways to learn and contribute during this conference build-up season."

This is Blake's first year at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. He is a transfer student from Southwest Minnesota State University for his sophomore year, and he plans on taking advantage of all the opportunities available on campus. He is interested in getting involved in the University Transfer Student Board, Amnesty International UMN, the Communications Studies Association, Den Svenska Klubben (The Swedish Club), and any other student groups he can fit into his schedule. Some career areas that he's interested in are social media management, marketing, human resources, and public relations.

Traveling is one of Blake's favorite things to do. This May, he went to Iceland with Normandale Community College, and he plans on taking a road trip to New York next year. He also loves spending time with friends and family, cooking vegan food, biking, and staying up to date on news events.

Katelyn, Student Graphic Designer

Conference logos, signage, program ads, printed marketing materials - they are all the work of Katelyn! Joining the NODA team this summer as she entered into her junior year in the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities' Graphic Design program, Katelyn has taken up the role of sole designer on the team very quickly! She works heavily with Nikki and will be collaborating with Blake as he starts to take on more communications and website management. She's excited to be building up a strong portfolio and hopes to one day work at a creative agency alongside a team of graphic designers.

"Katelyn came into our office and immediately stepped up to produce high quality work," says Director of Events, Programs, & Services Chad Henderson. "It is fun to see how she uses what she is learning in her academics immediately in her work at NODA. Additionally, I appreciate her laid back demeanor and positive attitude in our work together."

Drawing and painting are what initially drew Katelyn into graphic design. Outside of school and work, she spends a lot of time sketching. She also enjoys playing soccer with her friends.
