NODA Leader
Brett Bruner
Director of Persistence & Retention
Fort Hays State University

When and why did you join NODA?
I joined NODA in 2006 as a first-year graduate student. I had a background in orientation as an undergraduate student so I was excited to jump right in & get involved with NODA as an association.

What leadership positions have you held/currently hold in NODA?
Board of Directors - Member
Graduate Student Network - Webinars Coordinator

Regional Conference Host
Small College Network - Chair
State Coordinator - Kansas
Member of 3 Annual Conference Committees
Member of 5 Regional Conference Committees

Why was getting involved in NODA important to you?
Getting involved in NODA was important for me to continue to grow as a professional while also giving back to the Association. Through my involvement in various leadership positions, I have gained skills that can contribute to my work at my home institution.

Why should a member consider a leadership position in NODA?
A leadership position within NODA is a great way to meet others, contribute to the profession through service, & grow as a person & a professional!

What have you gained from your leadership positions in NODA?
Through my involvement in the various leadership positions within the Association, I have gained skills in areas that I haven't had in my professional work responsibilities, such as volunteer management & supervision & strategic ways of thinking. I've also met so many great friends & colleagues over the years through each of my roles that I have a network of people that I can contact should I need anything!

What is your favorite NODA related memory?
My favorite NODA memory is having the opportunity to serve as the 2010 Region IV & V Conference Host. Bringing together 2 regions into 1 central location in the Kansas City metro area was a great way to bring refreshing ideas to students & professionals from across different regions. Merging two sets of conference traditions was a fun experience as Region V was introduced to Roll Call while Region IV learned the Fashion Show experience!
