Tina ArthurAssistant Director of Orientation
The University of Iowa
Current NODA Position: General NODA Board Member
When and why did you join NODA?
I joined NODA as a graduate assistant in 2005. My bosses encouraged me
and I saw it as a professional development and networking opportunity. I
knew that NODA could introduce me to learning about Orientation and
Retention beyond the scope of my own program and institution. Why was getting involved in NODA important to you?
Meeting other professionals and working with them towards shared goals
for the Orientation, Retention and Transition fields, as well as my own
professional knowledge and growth were important to me. NODA has
provided me a welcoming professional organization that has allowed me to
grow and meet amazing friends and colleagues along the way.
Why should a member consider a leadership position in NODA?
I have been fortunate to work with amazing professionals who have
supported and encouraged me as well as worked extremely hard to advance
the field. Leadership in NODA is an opportunity to learn from others and
lead an organization that has been strategic about growth and its own
mission. What have you gained from your leadership positions in NODA?
Personally, I have gained friendships, knowledge, and a renewed purpose to my daily work. What is your favorite NODA related memory?
NODA provides so many opportunities for great memories. One of my
favorites was my experience working with the Annual Conference Committee
to put together the 2012 Annual Conference in Las Vegas. I really
enjoyed working with that group of people and watching all of our hard
work pay off! What leadership positions have you held/currently hold in NODA?
I served on the 2012 Annual Conference Committee in Las
Vegas, I am currently a General Board Member, and the State Coordinator
