Learn how UAB applies Tuckman’s stages of group development to its spring semester Orientation Leader class and how your orientation staff can build a more cohesive, high-performing team through the understanding and application of this well-established theory.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will understand Tuckman's stages of group development.
  • Participants will gain a broader understanding of the training and development process at peer institutions.
  • Participants will be able to apply the stages to their own orientation teams thereby leaving with a more complete understanding of where their own teams are in the process.

About the Presenters: 

Elizabeth Burns, Elizabeth has worked at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for the last nine years in recruitment and orientation programs. She is currently Associate Director of New Student Orientation in New Student Programs and also serves as the advisor for the Goin’ Green Orientation Leaders. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations from Auburn University and her Master's Degree in Communication Management from UAB. She lives in Birmingham with her husband and two dachshunds.
