Risk Management and Mitigation for Extended Orientation and Orientation Programs

After over 60 years of existence and with over 6,000 annual attendees, Fish Camp has had many opportunities to prepare for and respond to crises, including student death. We will discuss preparation for physical, reputational, emotional, financial, and facilities risks as well as training opportunities for our student leaders. 

 As a result of participation in this webinar, OTR professionals will be able to:

  • recall the five types of risk
  • understand situations and settings specific to OTR where risks should be mitigated
  • apply learning to developmental learning opportunities for students around risk mitigation and management (Student Learning and Development)

Who Should Attend: Professionals in Orientation, Transition, and Retention

About the Presenter: At Texas A&M University, Donna Lee Sullins serves as the Primary Advisor to Fish Camp, one of the largest student-run extended orientation programs in the country. She is a doctoral candidate in Student Affairs Leadership at the University of Georgia, having also earned a M.Ed. in College Student Affairs Administration from UGA. In her first professional position at a small institution, Donna Lee ran new student orientation, along with overseeing several other campus programs, before becoming the sole conduct officer on campus. Currently in her work at a very large institution, she works with students through the facilitator model to share responsibility of risk management and mitigation.
