Multicultural Network Program of the Month - August 2018 Florida State University: New Student & Family Programs
Spanish-translated Orientation Guide
“Holopaw” is a Seminole-Creek word for “pathways.” At Florida State University, each student and family member receives a Holopaw to not only serve as their guide during orientation, but also as a guide throughout their transition. Serving a student population with more than 18% of students identifying as Hispanic and Latinx, Florida State University’s New Student & Family programs produced a publication for Spanish-speaking family members attending orientation with their student. The publication was produced in partnership with FSU’s Hispanic/Latino Student Union (HLSU). The partnership between New Student & Family Programs, HLSU, and Collegiate Parent, provides information on the institution, financial aid, various campus departments, and support for their student’s transition. The publication was created to be evergreen and limits including specific dates. Family members may request a translated Holopaw when checking in to the orientation program. Spearheaded by Director Alison Leach Hughes, the translated resource, provides Spanish-speaking family members with valuable information. Download the digital guide here.
