NODA Association Update from Joyce Holl
August 2018
It’s that time of year with summer winding down and students are coming back to campus. August tends to be a time of reflection as programs end and evolve into welcoming not only freshman to campus but all students as they transition to the new academic year. Although it is a busy time, I do enjoy this time of year as I see the excitement from students returning and the results of your great work in welcoming students to your home institution. In the thick of programming, we tend to forget the impact we make and my hope is that you are proud of the great work you have done throughout the summer into this fall.

This is also a busy time of year for the Association Office as we gear up for the NODA Annual Conference. We are so excited to be planning a fantastic annual event for our members. This is your time to connect and network with your NODA family and gain valuable insights with the educational program offerings. Regular registration begins today and continues through October 3 so be sure to register before the final rate increases.

The NODA Board of Directors held a summer virtual Board meeting earlier in the month. To keep the NODA membership informed, Board Highlights have been created. When reviewing, you will note that the discussions center on the goals of the NODA Strategic Plan. There are many strategic initiatives taking place, and I hope you take a look at all that is happening.

The Association Office has grown through the years as the Board approved a leadership restructure with additional work moving to the staff. This is not new and has been in place for a few years, what is new is the evolvement of the staff as we have grown. As a result, an internal review is under way with a shift in responsibilities for the staff giving the opportunity to elevate positions. Part of this process is changing titles of the staff and I am thrilled to share that Chad Henderson is now the Associate Executive Director, Geida Cleveland is Assistant Director of Education and Annual Conference, Shannon Gilligan Wehr is Assistant Director of Education and Regional Conferences and Nikki Bartoloni is Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications. I know you will help me congratulate all of the staff for their hard work in providing programs and services for our members. I am also thrilled to announce that Marina Sladojevic has joined the NODA Association Office as the Office Manager. Marina comes to us with previous association and university experience. I know that you will enjoy meeting her and welcome her to the NODA family.

Don’t miss out on the monthly Governmental Relations update. Although there has not been a great deal of movement over the last month, it’s good to stay abreast of the current legislation pending that will impact those of us in student affairs. One item that we anticipate may show movement in either September or October is changes to Title IX. We expect there to be a 30 day comment period-we will inform the members as soon as we hear anything further.

Until next time….
