NODA Association Update from Joyce Holl
April 2018

The NODA 2018 Regional Conferences have closed for the season. Thank you to everyone who participated in your regional conference. I hope you found great value in the educational programming and connecting with your peers. Congratulations to all of the award winners. See the Regional Award winners here. We will also recognize winners in the annual report at the end of the year.

It goes without saying that the Association Office could not conduct our work without the tremendous leadership of volunteers. So many of you give back to your Association in a variety of ways, and each and every one of you makes a difference. President Quincy Spencer offered his thanks in a video in last week's NODAfications. See his message here. Thank you for all that you do!

The NODA Board of Directors held the Spring 2018 Board meeting in Baltimore, MD. Several strategic discussions took place. Read the highlights to learn more about the conversations.

NODA has partnered with other student affairs associations to track federal legislation that impacts higher education. As part of this partnership, we have contracted with the National Journal to monitor federal policy. We are currently monitoring the following: education policy under the Trump administration, DACA, HEA, TRIO programs and Title IX. Updates will be provided in the monthly NODA Review. You can read a current overview here.

In our continued conversation on FLSA, the US Department of Labor announced last Monday who is eligible for overtime pay. The department created a fact sheet for more information. For specific questions please contact your HR department.

It’s that time of year as you bring your student leaders and professional staff together to prepare for your orientation, transition, and retention programs. Show your NODA pride as you welcome your new team with NODA gear. We have a great variety of items for you to consider.

I wanted to share the news that Leiha Bakey, NODA Office Manager, will be leaving NODA to pursue a new opportunity outside of nonprofit and higher education. Leiha has been with the Association for some time, first as an undergraduate student office assistant and then returned a few years after graduation as a professional staff member. Leiha has been an important part of the team, and I know that you will help me wish her well as she moves on to her next endeavor. Leiha's last day will be Friday, April 27. Thank you Leiha for your tremendous contributions to NODA. We will miss your bubbly personality.

Until next time…
