NODA Excellence Fund (NEF)

The NODA Excellence Fund (NEF) is dedicated to supporting NODA members, just as our members are dedicated to the orientation, transition, and retention (OTR) profession. Investing in the NEF is one more way you can make a difference as an OTR student affairs professional.

The purpose of NEF is exclusively charitable. Donations to the fund help provide scholarships and opportunities for professionals and graduate students to receive high-quality training and experiences through NODA. This can range from expanding award and scholarship opportunities, to assisting with program travel, leadership development, and outreach activities.

NODA Catalyst Grant

The OTR Catalyst Grant is designed to catalyze new research that will advance both knowledge and best practices in orientation, transition, and retention. Prospective research studies, pilot studies, exploratory research projects (qualitative and quantitative), as well as assessment-based best practices (as defined by Upcraft and Schuh, 2002) that may be generalized will be considered for this award. In the 2018-19 grant cycle, up to $5,000 was awarded (in varying awards from $500 to $1,000). All grant recipients also receive the registration fee for one annual NODA Conference or regional conference and a year’s membership to the Association. Grant funds may be used to support professional development, researcher(s) stipend, and project expenses. All funds (100%) must be used to support the proposed project.

Typical Timeline:

  • February: Call for grant proposals
  • March: Deadline for grant proposals
  • April: Review and selection of grant recipients
  • May: Announcement of grant recipients
