The members of the editorial board are dedicated to a quality publication and are always willing to discuss manuscript ideas and publication policies with potential authors. Authors are not required to be NODA members to publish in its journal.


Guidelines for Manuscript Authors
The Journal of College Orientation and Transition focuses on the trends, practices, research, and development of programs, policies, and activities related to the matriculation, orientation, transition, and retention of college students. Also encouraged are literature reviews, "how-to" articles, innovative initiatives, successful practices, and new ideas.

Spring edition (Submission deadline: December 1)
Fall edition (Submission deadline: June 1)

Style Guide
Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition.

Manuscript Submission
Submit a copy, to the Editor via e-mail as a Microsoft Word document attachment. Manuscript should not exceed 5,000 words (approximately 20 pages of double-spaced, type-written copy, with one-inch margins, including abstract, tables and figures, and references).
 
Campus Notes Submission
Manuscript briefs on campus programs, "how-to" articles, successful innovations. and pragmatic issues relevant to the orientation, transition, and retention of students are encouraged. They should not exceed 1,500 words and must include a short abstract to the Editor.

Book Reviews Submission
Book reviews of current appropriate professional publications are encouraged. Submissions should not exceed 1,500 words and should be submitted directly to the "Book Reviews" Associate Editor.

Perspectives Submission
Manuscripts written in editorial or speech style, expressing the author's viewpoint, opinions, reflections, or experiences on an issues of importance to the community of orientation, transition, and retention professionals. They should not exceed 1,500 words and should be submitted to the Journal Editor.

Supply camera-ready art

Special Format Guideline
Place the name(s) of the author(s), position(s), institutional affiliation(s), and e-mail address(es) on a separate title page. The article's text page should include the manuscript title, but not the author name(s). Subsequent pages are to be identified by the running head and page number.

Note: Double-check references for accuracy and conformity to the APA style.

Review Process
The journal is refereed using a blind review system. The manuscript will be judged based on relevance of the topic, usefulness to the orientation, transition, retention and/or student affairs profession; writing skill; and quality of methodology and/or information. Notification of acceptance or rejection of all manuscripts will be made by the managing editor. All manuscripts received and approved for publication become the property of the association. The editor reserves the right to edit or rewrite accepted articles to meet the journal standards.

Concurrent Submissions to Other Publications
Never submit an article which has been previously published or one which has been submitted to another publication.

Appropriate Language
Avoid the use of the term "subject;" instead, use specific references such as "student" or "participant." Avoid sexist terminology and the perpetuation of stereotypes.

Permission to Reprint

Requests for permission to reprint should be made in writing to the Journal Editor.
