Place Communities Configuration
Since Place Communities are based on geographic locations, these communities are created by the Association and determined based on set criteria. Although Place Communities may vary in size for a variety of reasons, such as uneven distribution of political borders, land mass, and higher education institutions, the following criteria will be used as much as possible to determine each Place Community structure:
- Place Communities should have similar culture, climate, and approach to higher education throughout the geographic area
- Place Communities should have a minimum of approximately 300 members
- Place Communities should contain no more than approximately 20% of the total Association membership
- Place Communities should be mostly contiguous
Exceptions to these criteria when determining Place Communities are up to the discretion of the Association staff, in consultation with the President.
Place Communities Map
A current breakdown of Place Communities will be maintained in NODA’s Standard Operating Procedures and the Communities Manual. Review of Place Communities will take place every five years by Association staff, the Place Communities Lead, and Board Liaisons. Any changes to Place Communities breakdown will be submitted to the Board of Directors for approval.
