6020 – Core Communities

Last Revised: April 2025

Core Communities are essential to the mission of NODA and to enhancing the field of OTR. Given their importance to the Association, Core Communities are supported and maintained by the Association staff in the vacancy of a Community Chair(s).

Communities in each category can be designated as a Core Community. New Communities can request a Core Community designation when applying for creation. Community Formation applications requesting this designation will be evaluated on their need and/or relevance to OTR and the Association, leadership commitment to the work, and capacity/availability of staff support. Designations will be recommended by the Community Lead (People and Professional, Program, and Place) and Association staff, with final approval by the Board of Directors.

A full list of Core Communities will be maintained in the Communities Manual. Core Community designations will be evaluated annually by Community Leads and Association Staff during the standard Community review, with recommendations provided to the Board of Directors for continued designation or removals effective Jan. 1 of the following year.
